Course Description

Purpose:

To enhance professional practice, values, skills, and knowledge about serving cancer patients and families and identify community resources best suited to assist families.

Goals:  

Throughout the training, participants will increase knowledge regarding the impact of cancer in the family system and ways to best support them through communication and community resources.

Objectives:

  • Learn about the scope of cancer incidence and the most common concerns of cancer patients.
  • Understand ways to support families impacted by cancer.
  • Develop effective communication skills when working with cancer patients.
  • Identify community resources available to families impacted by cancer.

Clara Anderson Sainte, LCSW, LSCSW

Clara Anderson Sainte, LCSW, LSCSW, she/her/hers, is the Diversity & Inclusion Specialist with ReDiscover Mental Health. She is also a therapist in private practice with CenterPoint Counseling & Recovery and trained as a Grief Recovery Specialist. Clara serves the community through a variety of roles: 6th District Commissioner City of Kansas City’s LGBTQ Commission, Chair of Children’s Mercy’s Equity and Diversity Council; Big Brothers Big Sisters DEI Board Member; and healthcare instructor for Johnson County Community College. Clara previously served as a board member for KC Center of Inclusion and Mental Health America of the Heartland. Clara’s master’s degree in social work is from UMKC and she is an alumnus of Northwest Missouri State University. She spends time away from work with her husband and their children enjoying their favorite spots around KC.
